Mindjammer - The Roleplaying Game

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Grab your blaster, thoughtcast your orders to the starship sentience, and fire up the planing engines — come and defend the light of humanity’s greatest civilisation as it spreads to the stars!

The ENnie Award-winning transhuman science-fiction RPG setting returns, in a new edition updated and massively expanded for the Fate Core rules. Mindjammer is an action-packed tabletop roleplaying game about heroic adventurers in the galaxy of the far future, filled with virtual realities, sentient starships, realistic aliens, and mysterious worlds. Using the popular and award-winning Fate Core rules, Mindjammer lets you play hardened mercs, cunning traders, steely-nerved pilots, intrigue-filled spies and culture agents, aliens, divergent hominids, artificial life forms, and even sentient starships.

500 pages containing all the rules needed to play, including:

  • Full rules for starships, organisations, and culture operations
  • Detailed character cultures, genotypes, and occupations — play a sentient starship!
  • New and innovative rules for describing planets, star systems, and alien life
  • Deep background material on the New Commonality of Humankind
  • Rules for the Mindscape and virtual worlds
  • Starmaps and planet descriptions, histories and background
  • Hyper-advanced equipment, weaponry, enhancements, starships, and more.

Mindjammer — The Roleplaying Game can be used to play in the New Commonality of Humankind, or as a complete and detailed transhuman space opera rules set for any science-fiction setting.

It’s the Second Age of Space — the transhuman adventure is just beginning!

“A Must-Have for SF Fans” – Stargazer’s World

“It’s transhumanist space opera with a twist. Usually in transhumanist settings transfer of personalities is a common theme and the transferred mind is still considered to be the person it was before. This is different in Mindjammer and it makes the game much more playable in my opinion. The setting is definitely what makes the game a must-have for SF fans. It’s unique, extremely detailed, and should be a lot of fun to play.”

– Review at Stargazer’s World, by Michael Wolf.

“Wow!” – UK Roleplaying

“Overall I have to say – “wow.” This is an epic piece of work… The scope and breadth is magnificent and the little personal details in each chapter make this a joy to read through. … The fact that the system uses Fate Core I find intriguing. In fact so much so that I will be placing my order forthwith! To be honest the price of $54.99 for a 500-page book and PDF I think is a bargain. This gets a hearty endorsement from UK Roleplaying. Grab your blasters and let’s all head for the stars!!”

– Review at the UK Roleplaying blog.

“Stunning” – Game Knight Reviews

“[Mindjammer] does damn near anything you might want it to do for a sci-fi campaign. Gracefully. With style. And in a way that’s fun for GM and players alike… From a layout and design standpoint, the book is stunning… If you’ve ever pondered running a FATE-based space campaign, I don’t think you’ll find a deeper resource of ready-to-use information than the Mindjammer book.”

– Review of Mindjammer at The Game Knight Reviews.

“Mind-blowing” – Geek Native

“Mind-blowing… A Fate Core powered sci-fi RPG that feels larger than space istelf – and given there’s the Mindscape to explore, use, master and worry about, in addition to physical space, perhaps it really is that large. Mindjammer: The Roleplaying Game is a transhuman epic.”

– Review at the Geek Native website, by Andrew Girdwood

“Excellent!” – RPG.net

“Mindjammer is a great stand alone science fiction roleplaying game. Building on and adapting Fate Core to SF, you are propelled into a transhuman time of expansion, exploration and danger. Tools are provided to guide you on campaigns, adventures and constructing everything from characters to cultures, vehicles to huge structures. Really, very good indeed!”

  • Style: 5 (Excellent!)
  • Substance: 5 (Excellent!)

I was hoping, that the pdf would have an included outline. Sadly, this is not the case. I even installed the Acrobat Reader to check, if it was my alternative program used. So bottom line:<br />
the first three chapters are linked in the "Contents" page on p.3.<br />
The rest is not. Cross references are sometimes linked, but not everywhere. E.g. the subchapter "Tech Index" on p.11 has a cross reference to p.32, which is not linked.<br />
The table index on p. 492ff is also not linked.<br /><br />
In short: the pdf could have been of real value to me, as I already own the hardcopy book. As it stands, it was somewhat a waste of money. Shame. Hopefully the file will be updated in the near future.<br /><br />

Angel's Citadel just reviewed this game. Go check it out: https://angelscitadel.com/2021/08/13/review-mindjammer-fate-core-edition/

TL;DR - A fantastic example of skinning a generic rule system with a specific setting. Excellent work!

I bought the game, but direct from Modiphius so it doesn't let me type a review from here. I will say that the "modular" approach of separating the elements of the game in chapters works very well.

The author did seem to place a large load of new terminology into the game, so you will get to the point of reading passages like, "Skin-of-Our-Teeth is a starship sentience, one of the synthetic genotypes known as installations. This also makes her an eidolon, meaning she has some of the memories and personality engrams of a now-dead organic (probably a human) derived from a Mindscape thanogram (page 188). She must take a genotype aspect, but as being a sentient starship is so integral to her character identity, the GM allows her to combine it with her high concept aspect." Now, if there is a civilization thousands of years into the future, you can expect that they would evolve a whole slough of technological terms [aspect is a game-rule term, not a technology term], but this is...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
