Parsantium: City at the Crossroads

Auf die Wunschliste >
Ausgewählte Option:

Parsantium: City at the Crossroads is a city sourcebook for use with all editions of the world’s bestselling fantasy RPGs.

Parsantium is a melting pot, a cosmopolitan city where trade routes meet and great cultures collide. Inspired by real-life Byzantium with its rich Greco-Roman heritage, Parsantium is packed with characters, monsters and magic from the Tales of the Arabian Nights, ancient India and the Far East, alongside traditional medieval fantasy elements.

Featuring evil cults and exotic gods, unscrupulous politicians and nobles, scheming rakshasas and serpentfolk, ancient dungeons buried beneath the city streets, powerful criminal gangs, gladiators and chariot racing, Parsantium contains enough adventure hooks and adversaries to keep your player characters busy throughout their careers, without having to step outside the city walls.

The Parsantium city sourcebook contains:

  • 2,000 years of history
  • 17 character backgrounds for new PCs
  • Over 70 detailed city locations
  • Over 200 NPC descriptions
  • 50 power groups, guilds and noble families
  • 35 deities

Compatible with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Parsantium: City at the Crossroads contains minimal game stats, making it easy to use with whatever edition you are playing. Parsantium can be readily incorporated into your own campaign world or published fantasy setting.

Written by Richard Green, author of Empire of the Ghouls and Midgard Worldbook (Kobold Press), and featuring cover art by Joe Shawcross, brand new interior art by Matt Morrow and Marc Radle, and a double page map of the city by ENnie Award winning cartographer Jonathan Roberts.

I purchased a print on demand copy of the book. But I only now realise that I can only have the full color map is by purchasing the book in PDF. Any way to to get a full color map without having the buy the book all over again?

Although there aren’t individual maps of each ward, the wards are all shown on the detailed full colour city map included with the PDF, and each key location is marked.

Very well structured, fairly detailed without being too riding, this is an excellent setting for use by GMs who want something strange without going gonzo- the city is laid out with good details, as well as connections to history and the world about- while intended for 13th age, it can be made to fit most any campaign or FRPG I know of without great effort. This may well be my next 5e campaign. Highly recommended

Does this really work with 5E?

Hi there,

The book contains very little in the way of game stats, making it easy to use with 5e or other editions. So, NPCs are given a description, plus alignment, gender, race, class and level, as in 2e sourcebooks e.g. Saudamini (NG female human sorcerer 6), rather than full stat blocks. I know of gamers using the book in 5e, 13th Age, ACKS, and even Dungeon World campaigns.

Hope this helps

Is there anyway to get the map of Parsantium without the labels?

Hi Benjamin,

I'm afraid not – the cartographer was only commissioned to supply a labelled version.

I am SO happy with finding this product. I just put out a pitch that I wanted to do thieves in a city type campaign. But I really didn't want to do yet another western european version of a fantasy city. I even, in one of my emails to the players, referenced Baghdad and especially, Constantinople. This was perfect. Because we are using Dungeon World and how I approach campaigns, the city government changed somewhat (elves are the royalty, but are politically weak and the Council of Merchants are the real movers and shakers). We LOVE the map. Our first session was last night.

I have an actual play here if you are so inclined: https://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?776829-Intrigues-of-Parsantium-Dungeon-World

The more I read of Parsantium, the more I fall in love with the setting. So much potential, and yet, I'm torn. On one hand, I love the freedom that comes with having very little of the greater world detailed. There's just enough information to get a feel for the Caliphate, Sampur, and beyond, which only entices me further. As I write, I wonder: will there be future products to bring these locations to life? I'd buy them in an instant, but as I mentioned earlier, I still enjoy the prospect of building them on my own (especially the Caliphate; I look forward to mining through the several Al-Qadim books I've acquired for more inspiration).

I'd like to say thanks to Richard Green for producing such a fun and intriguing setting. I will certainly be running a Parsantium game in the near future, and look forward to playing in one, too; my brother, whose taken an interest in Urskovia, will soon run a game set in the frozen north. As a horror writer, I can only imagine what terror he has in store, but I'm...See more

Hi Mark,

Thanks so much for your kind words - they are very much appreciated!

I'm definitely going to be doing some follow up supplements to Parsantium. I'm looking at a 13th Age icons PDF and an adventure anthology to start with, but I'd love to do something on the wider world too in the future, including the Caliphate and Sampur. If you keep an eye on parsantium.com, I'll be posting regular updates there on what I'm up to.

Cheers

Does anyone know if maps of the city are included with this product? If so, how detailed are they?

Hi Jason,

Yes, there's a gorgeous double page city map by Jonathan Roberts – in colour on the PDF (and included as a separate 300 dpi image file too) and in grayscale in the print version. It's pretty detailed – there are 139 locations marked on, with around 20 major buildings drawn individually. You can see a preview of part of the map here: https://plus.google.com/+Fantasticmaps/posts/VGPDsz9CEgp

Cheers
