When I bought the watermarked PDF, the hard copies were not available to purchase. Instead of paying an additional $35 or $60 for a softcover or hardcover, would it be possible to pay the difference between the bundle pdf/hard copy price and the amount I already paid for the watermarked PDF?

The content is great. However, my book fell apart within a week. Not properly glued. Everyone else I game with got good put together books so I'm not complaining that the books were poorly made. I just happened to get the crappy one. Would be nice to receive a new one.

After contacting drivethrurpg about the issue, they were able to replace the faulty book. Their customer service is fast to respond and excellent in communication.

I absolutely can't wait for the W:tA version of this system. If it's even half as good as the V:tM book, I'll be quite pleased. We play in the MES LARP chronicles and right now we're still using the old MET rules for Werewolf. I look forward to the day we can switch over to the BNS rules.

I just wish they made this book smaller, like the size of the Minds Eye Theater books, that felt more proper for a larp and easier to carry around.

While I understand the sentiment of wanting a smaller book, the BNS book has far more information in it than the old "pocket sized" MET books did, so it seems to be an unfortunate necessity. No one in my LARPs actually carry around the BNS book during a game. They're kept nearby on tables or counters in out of character areas so people can reference them when they need to.

Just recieved my hardcover and NONE of the images are in color. Everything is printed in Black and White and I am extremely disappointed. I will be contacting both by night studios and rpgdrivethru to find out who's fault this is especially when the description says FULL COLOR ART. Be warned about the hard cover version

Update: After contacting "By Night Studios" and sending them pictures of everything I got a response within a hour. After the following hour I was told that they would be reprinting and reshipping a full color copy to my house along with forwarding the pics to the manufacturer to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else. These guys were awesome!

I am actually quite pleased with the system.

What I am NOT happy about is the rather unappealing print quality I got in my hard copy I ordered from DriveThru. I expected better considering the Blood and Smoke book I got before was quite impressive. The hardcover I received for this looks so horribly faded the beautiful pictures in this book are ruined by it.

An absolutely excellent reworking of the MET rules system - By Night Studios has taken a system that, while fun, was previously too stats- and math-focused and turned it into a streamlined system that encourages character-driven plot over stat-based challenges. I've played this at the latest during LA By Night, and again here in the first game using its rules in Vancouver at CAiNE 2014 for a Sabbat game, and I can't praise it enough! Well worth it!

Has anyone else had this production error?

I've contacted By Night and they said to contact DriveThru to get it fixed. So far I haven't gotten ANY repsonse from DriveThru about this problem. :(

I've been playing MET since 2000. In all that time, I've only used the revised edition rule set. I've been playing D&D since 1991 and I've played every edition that's been put out (including playtesting 5th).

This new rules set is to Revised Edition MET Laws of the Night what Paizo's Pathfinder d20 is to D&D 3.5. It is meant to allow existing campaigns to continue uninterrupted with only minor changes, while improving and streamlining gameplay without losing any of the feel of the previous version or discouraging the creativity and originality players use when creating and fleshing out characters. Anyone who has played D&D 4th edition and/or Requiem after playing the previous editions should understand what I'm saying here.

And as for the "changes to canon" that some have mentioned, it has been over a decade since the last book for Masquerade came out. Think about all the changes around you in the real world that have happened in the past 10 years (America's first...See more

Honestly this new system is great, I'm glad that the metaplot is less of a factor now.

is this part of the V20 edition?
Customer avatar
chuck M February 26, 2014 7:23 pm UTC
No it is not part of V20. This is acreworking of the original Minds Eye Theater LARP books. This was created by some of the V20 creators but now they are By Night Studios. V20 is now cpublished by Onyx Path

This is better described as a VtM derivative, rather than an actual conversion. This is more like a whole new game with some matching terminology. It goes away from the tabletop mechanics and metaplot and creates a (poorly explained) cognate of VtM. Ritae can only performed once per night per Cainite with a specific status (once more if they have a merit that fills up that 7 slot points)? Sabbat PCs have to spend some of those other 7 merit points on Paths of Enlightenment to play their concepts? Only Methuselahs are viable antagonists (since playing a 6th Gen is simply the only way to go)? An interesting (to say the least) interpretation, if you want to call it that.

Nick V January 21, 2014 9:28 pm UTC
Woa, I wouldn't go that far! I mean VtR was a game with matching terminology and no relationship to the old material. This game at least tries... I say try, and not succeed, due to the fact that a LOT of the metaplot was changed for reasons that just don't feel natural. I'm a huge Giovanni fan and reading about "The Promise" and the Followers of Set bailing them out with a ton of Boons is just like "Wait... Why are the Settites helping the Giovanni again?!"

As for playing 6th gen's the only way to go... I kinda feel the complete opposite, all the cost benefits and power level of techniques, it feels like they gave tons of incentives for people to play Neonates over Elders now. I mean being able to nab up Influences and Skills and Rating x 1?!?!?! That's just bananas for anyone looking to play an Influence Whore.

Joan, I highly encourage you to read through the material in depth if you haven't, or reread it again if you believe you had.

As for specific items:
TT rules have no relevance to LARP, this is a LARP system.
Only some ritae are like that, and amazingly the intent is to allow multiple people to be cool!
Paths of Enlightenment were never something that all Sabbat had. It wasn't their default.
Sixth Gen isn't the only way to go mechanically at all. Every generation has strength and weaknesses!

ohhhh, i don't know about your (edit) third point. It really was the basic default. The Player's Guide to the Sabbat (the first one) was the first fleshing out they got, before that it very much implied that they didn't run on Humanity at all. Even that book goes out of its way to tell you that you really won't be using Humanity. By Revised, they nerfed the violent imagery and made them a bit more of a religious anti-hero cult. This made playing Sabbat chronicles a bit more of the core experience and not a pseudo-spinoff game. It more or less only poses it as common for players because that struggle to remain human is core to the original theme of the game, and it is expected that you are newly embraced and haven't had time to degrade to a path. Revised (and V20) lets you know Humanity among the Sabbat is extremely temporary in vampire terms. Every reincarnation of the core books tends to Humanize them more and more, but it is still pretty much a given that Humanity is not the norm and tends to be the exception...See more

I don't know what books you had been reading, but the default in Sabbat has -always- been Humanity (albeit low Humanity). Most young Sabbat don't have the drive and discipline necessary to abandon that Humanity and take a Path... and young Sabbat make up the vast majority of the Sect.

well, I've been reading the books White Wolf made. and I've been reading them since the early 90s. unless you came along with Revised first, you would have seen that Humanity was not the default. however, since i will assume you want evidence:

page 59 Players Guide to the Sabbat. Step 5 Final Touches- explicitly states that you determine willpower and starting Path of Enlightenment ratings. furthermore, it says "Sabbat characters do not normally have Humanity ratings, for their Path of Enlightenment ratings take its place. However, a few Sabbat do not follow any Path and some of these have Humanity ratings INSTEAD" (emphasis mine). also, the character sheet automatically assumes Path and is marked Path of ________. Humanity was never expressed as Path of Humanity (as it was occasionally written in later editions) and therefore was clearly not the default. It was presented as an option if someone felt they really wanted to do it, and came with drawbacks (less virtues and a cap of 5)

Kyle - Players guide to the Sabbat was 1st ed, that was changed in 2nd and Revised editions and it not that way in V20. Generally all Sabbat start with the path of Humanity and switch over later if they last long enough. Page 127 of the Guide to the Sabbat.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
