In Numenera, exploration and risk are everything. Players earn experience points not for killing monsters, but for making discoveries and facing unexpected challenges. You might rack up your XP between sessions, but most commonly you receive experience points during play, when events take an unexpected turn or you make a remarkable discovery. And XPs are useful in both the short- and long-term: spend 1 XP to reroll for yourself (or a friend), or save them up for character advancement!

The Numenera XP Deck gives you a set of tangible tokens to represent experience points. This 30-card deck is a simple but useful tool at the game table.

Of course it would be simple and straight forward to just write the XP down with a pencil, but it's a product like this which makes Numenera so a well thought out game. Great idea Monte Cook and co. I have ordered the Cypher Deck and Creature Deck to [...]

Ok, I got both the PDF and Card Pack. I understand the need to have cards for XP is both a currency for in game benefit as well as a tool to level up. And while this product completely optional to have (Poker chips, and glass beads could easily be us [...]

Probably the least useful product so far in the Numenera line, and while I wouldn't say it is actually bad its purpose is limited, and I'm glad I did not pay more to get the physical XP cards as part of my Kickstarter reward. While the cards do [...]

It´s a great tool inside the Game. It´s easy for the players to use and understand the mechanic of XP in Numenera. And the ART is great. [...]

N.B. this is a review of the PDF version ONLY and does not apply to the printed version. What we have here is basically a deck of cards with the numbers one or four printed on them. In actual fact the PDF version contains only three different i [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
