Houserule Handbooks: Spellpoints Compilation

AJOUTER A LA LISTE DE SOUHAITS >
Option choisie:

Welcome to Houserule Handbooks: Spellpoints Compilation, the first in a new line of compiled Houserule Handbooks. Each of these products is designed to present the full rules compiled from several Houserule Handbooks pdfs, introducing a set of carefully balanced, developed, and playtested houserules for campaigns using the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook.

While the core rules present characters with two kinds of spellcasting – spontaneous spellcasters and preparation spellcasters – their core spellcasting abilities follow the same general restrictions. While tried and true, both of these spellcasting types don’t do a very good job of modeling how spellcasters tend to work in popular fantasy fiction. The vast majority of spellcasters in stories with magic almost never complain about not having prepared the right spell for a specific encounter, or whine that they are limited in how many spells they can learn by some unbreakable mystic limit.

Inside this humble 38 page volume of Houserules is a system to allow all spellcasters to fuel their spells with a pool of spell points, not requiring any spell preparation, and allowing a spellcaster additional flexibility by using a lot of spell points to fuel a few high-level spells, or gain extended staying power by restricting casting to a larger number of lower-level spells. Further, the system is designed only for actual spellcasters, ignoring the spell-like abilities of monks and other classes dissimilar enough from true spellcasters to not need the same kind of spell point houserules.

I love using this! This may be an old document, but will you ever update it to include the later classes? Such as the Arcanist?

Greetings. I have a question that is off topic and wasn't sure where else to put it. I was looking for titles that fell under the heading of "Anachronistic Adventurers" but when I click that link, nothing comes up. Are those documents still available from another source? Thank you.

The entire Anachronistic Adventures line was sold to another company, Platform 3, who do not currently have them up for sale.

How well will this work with D&Dv3.5?

The core rules will adjust just fine. Obviously the class-by-class details will be slightly off where a 3.5 class is different than the PF1 class.

What, precisely, does this compile? Does it include all the content from houserules handbooks spell points and spell points expansion and houserules footnotes spell point feats? Just the two handbooks (page count suggests it)?

Will there be an update of this product to include the spellcasting classes from The Advanced Class Guide and Occult Adventures?

We honestly haven't figured that out yet. The additional work would not be insignificant, and we'd likely have to increase the price of the product to try to cover its costs, which makes it harder for new customers to gain access to the overall system. OTOH, it'd be nice to have a complete list for all Paizo classes. Of course, the rules this book already has on applying the spell-point rules to other base classes can still be used to apply this to the ACG and OA classes by existing purchasers.

Understandable. Then again, the reason I made the question was because some classes, like the Arcanist, present mechanics that are unique regarding the way they handle their Spell Slots, so I don't know how to implement, properly, the Spell Point system to such classes. I mean, in the particular case of the Arcanist, I would be inclined to use something "similar" to the "Divine Attunement" mechanic, but I'm not really sure if that is the right approach, to be honest. Any help or guidance you can give me please?

If my 2 cents count, I would love to see an update to this product with the update to the Advanced Class Guide, Occult Adventures, Classes from the Rogue Genius Games classes, and even may be other ones from Everyman Gaming, or the 4 horsemen classes.

I too understand that it would be a huge committment, but I would love it.

I also would love a Time thief/Time warden, Time masters, and Time monsters compilation into one AMAZING tome encompassing all that is available to Time characters. Of course I would prefer it to be print & pdf too. AMAZING. Please.

We're still trying to figure out how to update our Spell Points Compendium, though it does cover coming up with spell point goals yourself for classes we don't cover. The archaist, however...

As for the Time Stuff comp[ilation, we plan to do that... just as soon as we finish the last book in that line, the Genius Guide to Time Magic, which we never seem to have time for, ironically...
