Is there ever going to be a Print on Demand option? Burning Wheel, which is supposed to handle the print copies, is out of stock.

One of the authors mentioned that a new printing is coming up soon-ish.

I'm considering buying this book only to get its settlement building system to use in D&D 5th Ed.
Can anyone tell me whether it'd be a lot of work to convert it over?

You could use the steading rules as-is for nearly any "Gygaxian fantasy" or similar dungeon fantasy game. They cut to the chase by defining the steadings in fiction-rich elements instead of crunch.

Any reason why the print version I have (5th printing, 2015) is different from the pdf (1st printing, 2012)?

Nothing substantial changed. The recent physical printings have a slightly different back cover and title page as Burning Wheel now handles publishing the game so their logo is added. The contents have not changed at all.

Pleas Help

I've downloaded this book only to find it gives me 13 different downloads. I've downloaded them all but now i don't know where to start. 4 of the downloads appear to be the same book. i assume one of these books is the most updated version but which one? Which book is the important one to read?

There are color and B&W versions of the core rules, in "spreads" format for reading on a widescreen monitor, and "1-up" for reading on a tablet or printing. So open Dungeonworld_color_spreads.pdf for reading one page at a time in fullscreen on your monitor, Dungeonworld_color.pdf for reading on a tablet, or Dungeonworld.pdf for the B&W print-friendly copy.

Why is the total file-size 521 megabytes? That would be a great encumbrance in my tablet.

There's a .ZIP file in there that contains ALL the files you need, which is about 250 Mb. Just download that to your PC and you get all the files... OR download the individual file(s) you want to your tablet. If you download the ZIP file and all the individual files too, you're just duplicating a download.

If you just want the main rules to read in Portrait mode on your tablet, you only need the Dungeonworld_color.pdf file.

The Quick Preview isn't working for me. I see only grey space. The Full-size Preview works but takes a little while to download.

New playbooks are beautiful !

However they still contain some errors - like move "Unencumbered, Unharmed" in Druid playbook.

Is there any version of the book with a working index ? I have to manually go to a page when I need info, and that's a pain.
Customer avatar

Do you mean an index (a list of terms on a page at the back), or bookmarks (a built-in list of key pages in the pdf which is often presented on the left side of the content)?

I often add bookmarks myself because it's so common for PDFs to lack quality bookmarks. (I haven't bought this one.)

I believe they mean a bookmark index for the pdf reader. So you can skip to the page you want.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
