First off, thanks for a great looking book with the right level of detail that I'm looking for in a science fiction game.

One thing I'd like to see some guidance on is additional modules for starships, especially something like a cryosleep unit for those ships transporting lots of people in stasis. What is the best way to design such a module?

Hi Steven, I'm happy you like M-SPACE! For cryosleep modules, I would probably treat them as cargo. A cargo module fits approximately 1 ton, so depending on the Tech Level of your campaign, you could store perhaps 2-10 people in a single module. In a high-tech ship, that means 1000 people in 100 modules. Not too shabby.

Also sorry that I missed this one for DotD. Will be watching for it again.

Does it contain rules for robot PCs?

Hi Jeremy, I'm sorry you missed the sale! Unfortunately, it will be a while before I can run a DotD again. So, just send me an email and I will setup the same deal for you.

The rules for robots and cyborgs are in M-SPACE Companion, I'm afraid. It's a modular system - much like starships and vehicles - offering quite a lot of flexibility without being bogged down with rules. You'll find reviews of the Companion on both Runeblog and EN World - links on FrostByte Books webpage.

I checked out your website and saw the extended preview. Really nice graphic design on the book and site. Very slick and minimal. I love it. Unfortunately I couldn't find your contact information.

Sorry about that! My email is clarence.redd (at) gmail.com. The extended preview is actually from an old version (1.0 perhaps?) and I'm sure you will enjoy the new one even more, with updated illustrations and some general cleanup.

Just got it. I do like the extra art. But I think I'll get it printed in grayscale, it seem to fit the the general aesthetic.

Sidebar, is it easy to turn off the watermark?

Hi, I just missed for one day the deal of the day offer. Is there any chance to benefit from an extraordinary extension of the offer for one day to get this book? Since I am starting with Cepheus, I wanted to check the differences with this system and what it could offer me to enrich the stories. Regards.

Hello! could I ask if it would be possible to add an option for a "Hardcover Standard Color Book"?

Hi Ilias, the idea was to make the two versions as distinct as possible, to avoid confusion. But I understand that some might prefer a mid-priced option as well. I will certainly look into a hardcover with standard colour.

Hi Jeremy, sorry for the ultra-late reply. Your message got lost in some email black hole here. I'm not aware of any flip-through of the most recent version of M-SPACE unfortunately. Many illustrations were upgraded or replaced in v1.2, so older previews will not be much help either. But I will see if I can create an updated preview file.

Need some help with a doubt.
Hangar Bay, among the modules, how many modules are needed for different ships/vehicles exactly?
Using various examples in the book, I opted for 1 module for transported ship size (maybe a little more) but I can't quantify how many for vehicle.
The destroyer hangar lists what it transports, but its just 10 modules for each vehicle (troop transports, fighters, heavy and light vehicles)

Hi Riccardo, sorry if the rules are a bit truncated on this matter. On page 89, it says that a small All-Terrain-Vehicle needs 4 Modules. A small ATV probably takes up 8-10 Vehicle Modules, so a rule of thumb would be to divide the vehicle’s size in two to get the number of Hangar Bay Modules. For small starships, I would take the ship size and add 10% to get the number of hangar Modules.

But keep in mind that vehicles and small ships can be docked in a more efficient way than in a regular hangar bay (like TIE fighters in Star Wars, for example). So, take the tips above with a big grain of salt.

Hi, thanks for the reply!
Do you think I can use that "10% more" rule also for docking capital ships in gigantic space stations?
Or maybe, now that I think of it, it's not worth to write down statistics for something of that scale

Yes, it would probably work for mega-structures as well. But I guess most big ships would dock outside such a station and extend a “gangway”? But that depends on the setting, of course!

I was thinking of a gigantic space station, sitting in an asteroid belt, using said asteroid's materials to build capital ships. Inside, because they need protection during construction

Hey Paul, I unpublished the hardcover a few months ago unfortunately. The cost skyrocketed at the POD printshop, but I hope to bring it back soonish with a more reasonable price. I have changed the wording on my webpage. Thanks for the heads-up!

Hi Jayme, I unpublished the hardback premium colour print a few weeks ago. The printer that DriveThru uses raised their prices considerably, while lowering the print quality (affecting every publisher here). It didn’t seem fair to keep selling such a product. Hopefully, it will return soon but there have been no word about any changes from DriveThru yet.

Hi Federico, the differences are mostly in the look and feel of the book. There are some new illustrations and print quality has improved for the hardback. The content is almost unchanged. Typos have been fixed and three short appendixes add skill pyramids, some requested careers and new examples of Extended Conflicts.

PUBLISHER
Hi Aaron, apart from the binding - softback vs. hardback - print quality is slightly lower in the standard colour version. The most obvious difference, when compared side by side, is in the images. The premium print has richer colours, more true to how they were intended. The regular colour version is a bit washed out in comparison. Paper quality is also slightly better in the premium version (smoother), as well as the actual text printing (sharper).

I like both versions. The softback is flexible and easy to carry around, while the hardback is sturdy and durable. For artwork, the hardback is better.

Dear Clarence is the any mistake in exemple of using opposed roll or me English failed but why it is like this: P 42 Example: While trying to bargain for an antique scroll, Nedra rolls 53 on her Commerce at 65%. Her opponent, a greedy an tiquarian, rolls 47, and despite his skill being 70%, Nedra has rolled the highest success. Nedra gets the scroll for half the price.
Nedra doesn’t roll a critical and score is not higher than the greedy antiquarian. Thank you for your clarifications and the nice work you did

Hi Stéphane, the example is correct! The antique dealer’s skill is better, as you say, but Nedra’s d100 roll is higher. In opposed rolls, the highest successful roll always wins. You can think of it as Blackjack - you want to roll below your skill, but as close to it as possible. If you get both a successful roll and a higher roll than the opponent, you win.

That should probably work. The book doesn’t cover post-apocalypse specifically, but all the pieces are there, I think. You might want to download the free Mythras Firearms for a bigger variety of weapons though.

I went to your website and the colour works out to nearly $100 Canadian after shipping. Is there no way you could put a colour version on LULU or even set up a (superior in all ways) POD here on Drivethru? Really want to give you my business, but not particularly interested in paying that much for shipping, especially when other options are available.
Either way, great product :)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
