About Us
DriveThruRPG.com is part of a family of premiere online marketplaces also including DriveThruRPG, Dungeon Masters Guild, DriveThruCards, DriveThruComics, DriveThruFiction, and Wargame Vault. Together, we have been selling digital and print-on-demand comic books, roleplaying games, and fiction since 2001. As of 2016, we have launched multiple community content programs as well as our Community Card Creator for fans to create content for some of their favorite roleplaying and card games.

A Brief History of OneBookShelf

2001

James Mathe launches RPGNow the same year Apple launches iTunes. It may be common today to download a book and read it on a computer, tablet, or phone, but RPGNow and a handful of roleplaying game publishers pioneered downloadable PDFs in the gaming community.

2004

Mike Todd, Chris McDonough, and Steve Wieck start DriveThruRPG. The combined efforts of DriveThruRPG and RPGNow make both out-of-print and in-print RPGs easily available in electronic format to fans around the world.

2005

DriveThruComics (the first online retailer to specialize in downloadable comics) and DriveThruFiction are launched, following the success of DriveThruRPG.

2006

RPGNow and DriveThru merge to form OneBookShelf. The sites are integrated so that customers can log into any of the sites using one customer account.

2008

OneBookShelf takes over operations of Mongoose Publishing’s “Wargaming Online” site, relaunching it as Wargame Vault.

2010

OneBookShelf launches its book printing program, allowing many publishers' out-of-print titles to be available once again in softcover and hardcover printed book formats.

2012

OneBookShelf launches DriveThruCards, a marketplace dedicated to stand-alone card games, custom poker decks, deck-building games, and other poster, tile, and card products, in both print-and-play and high-quality printed formats.

2013

OneBookShelf, in conjunction with Wizards of the Coast, launches DnDClassics, a marketplace dedicated to selling PDFs of Dungeons & Dragons products from every edition of the world’s most popular roleplaying game.

2015

DriveThruCards partners with Paizo to create the first card creator platform for Pathfinder Adventure Card Game. The Community Card Creator is a web application at DriveThruCards that allows you to you create, print, and share your own cards ideas. Boss Monster, Murder of Crows, and Button Men follow soon after.

2016

OneBookShelf, in partnership with Wizards of the Coast, launches DMsGuild, a community content program that allows creators to make content using Wizards of the Coast properities. DMsGuild replaces DnDClassics.

After the successful launch of DMsGuild, more community content programs follow, including Cortex Plus Creator Studio.

2017

More Community Content Programs emerge including Explorer's Society for 7th Sea (John Wick Presents), Cypher System Creator (Monte Cooke), Statosphere for Unknown Armies (Atlas Games), and more.

2018

Over ten years after the merger of RPGNow and DriveThruRPG, plans are set in motion to close the RPGNow storefront and fold it entirely into DriveThruRPG. Meanwhile, while DriveThruRPG continues to grow strongly, as it always has, the growth of DMsGuild is phenomenal, thanks to the resurgence in popularity of D&D and the passion of its fans and Guild creators.

2019

Community Content Programs continue to expand and prosper, with new programs for Savage Worlds, Hero Kids, and others joining the lineup. OneBookShelf also announces a new partnership with Astral Tabletop, an immersive online platform enhancing in-person play and also allowing gamers to play their favorite tabletop games with friends, whether across the table or across the country.

Tragically, RPGNow founder James Mathe passes away in his sleep in June of this year.
